Finance minister under investigation

Minister of Finance Veaceslav Negruta is investigated because the Ministry paid considerable damages to former detainee Pantelei Sandulachi, in the absence of a final court decision. The minister told a press briefing that he acted according to the law. The official said that he implemented a court order made by the Court of Appeals in 2012. Under the court decision, the Ministry had to pay €400,000 to the former lawmaker, Info-Prim Neo reports. Veaceslav Negruta said that the court decision was implemented without being appealed to the higher court as it was a court order based on an irrevocable decision. “I and my colleagues from the Ministry are being accused groundlessly. As a minister, I obeyed the legal norm. Light should be cast as soon as possible. I will furnish the investigation bodies and the general public with all the information I possess so that this situation is clarified,” he stated. Veaceslav Negruta also said that he was the victim of blackmail, while the ‘show’ in the media over this case forms part of a broader context of financial terrorism. “If you compare the events of 2011 and the recent events, a conclusion will appear itself. Any thing that happens has an explanation. It is an attempt to prevent me from fulfilling my duties,” said the minister, without providing details. Pantelei Sandulachi received €400,000. Afterward, the Prosecutor’s Office appealed the decision to the Supreme Court of Justice.
