First Lavender Fest in Moldova

A Lavender Festival will be held in Moldova for the first time. It will take place in Cobusca Noua village of Anenii Noi district at a distance of 35 km from Chisinau, near a huge lavender field, on June 20. The event will include a fair of thematic handmade items that will include lavender and oils, IPN reports.

According to a communique of the Association “Ca Lumea”, which organizes the festival, the program includes motivational seminars and gastronomic workshops with people who eat healthily and live a healthy lifestyle, food tasting events, sessions of massage with lavender oil, family photo sessions, animation for children, and a classical music concert in the open air with artists and the Chisinau Youth Orchestra.

Founder of the Association “Ca Lumea” Nata Albot said she wants this event to become one of the most expected by the Moldovans and to attract foreign tourists who look for unexplored destinations. “It’s time that they know that Moldova is also rich in such landscapes with lavender, not only France’s Provence. We have so many lavender fields in Moldova, but the people do not know it. The festival is designed to discover and promote this plant so that we do not only export it, but also use it at home, stated Nata Albot.

The visitors of the event are asked to wear only white clothes. Tickets cost 250 lei per person and 450 lei per couple. After June 13, the prices of tickets will rise. Minibuses will set off to Cobusca Noua every 20 minutes from the terminus of trolleybus route No. 22, in Botanica, starting at 12 noon.

Lavender Fest will also include a charity element – the Art-therapy project – within which the organizers aim to decorate wards in the national children’s hospitals.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, 569 hectares were planted with lavender in Moldova last year.
