First vaccines through COVAX to be delivered by end-February

The first consignment of COVID-19 vaccines are to be shipped to Moldova through the COVAX platform by the end of this month, World Health Organization Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge stated in a video conference with President Maia Sandu and adviser to the President on health Ala Nemerenco, IPN reports.

According to the presidential press service, Maia Sandu underlined the necessity of swiftly providing the Republic of Moldova with free vaccines through the COVAX platform, for 20% of the population, as it was planned. President Sandu also asked for the WHO’s assistance in negotiating advantageous prices with vaccine producers through COVAX.

The Republic of Moldova is to receive 24,500 doses of Pfizer/BioNTech (Comirnaty) vaccines and up to 264,000 doses of Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccines through the COVAX platform. The delivery was confirmed by the international platform on January 30.
