Five witnesses in unison: Papuc and Botnari did not give orders on April 7
The witnesses in the case of Former Minister of the Interior Gheorghe Papuc and former Commissioner of Chisinau Vladimir Botnari say in unison that they did not receive instructions from the two on April 7, 2009, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In the October 7 hearing, deputy commissioner of Straseni Victor Zacrevski, who was deputy commissioner of Buiucani district in 2009, said the commissariat's police officers on April 7 were dispatched to the Presidential Office, where they put up resistance to the protesters.
Zacrevski said several officers were injured by the stones thrown by protesters. “I decided to withdraw the personnel as the protesters became very aggressive. In such rallies, I bear responsibility for the lives of my inferiors,” he stressed, adding he received other orders through the radio, but does not remember from whom. He also said that several protesters were taken to the Buiucani commissariat, but none of them was maltreated.
Commissioner of Edint district Ion Volontir, who was acting commissioner of Buiucani district in 2009, said he received most of the orders from Deputy Minister of the Interior Valentin Zubik, including to maintain public order and defend the state buildings without the use of force.
Asked by Prosecutor Sergiu Rosu who ordered leaving the Parliament Building, Ion Volontir said he took the decision himself as several officers were injured and the building was full of smoke.
Veaceslav Pelin, commander of the Mobile Carabineer Brigade No. 3, said he and his inferiors left the Parliament Building at the instruction of Deputy Minister of the Interior Andrei Shumleanski.
The last two witnesses, public order specialist with the Carabineer Troops Oleg Cristea and deputy commander of the Mobile Brigade No. 2 Veaceslav Martaniuc, also said they took no orders from Botnari or Papuc, only from Andrei Shumleanski.
Gheorghe Papuc and Vladimir Botnari are charged with misconduct in office during the April 2009 protests, which resulted in the death of Valeriu Boboc. They face a fine of 6,000 to 16,000 lei or two to six years' imprisonment.
The next hearing will take place on October 8.
