Floresti factory making Italian brand sneakers illegally

Over 1,000 pairs of counterfeit Italian brand sports shoes have been found at a shoe factory in Floresti town and several storehouses in Chisinau. The shoes were made in Moldova, but sold under an Italian brand name. In Italy, such sneakers cost €300-400 a pair, while the cost price of a pair made in Moldova was assessed at €30, Info-Prim Neo reports quoting a communique from the Anticorruption Center. The business was managed by a group of Italians who smuggled raw material and modern equipment for making sports shoes and falsifying the brand name into Moldova. The factory's employees confessed they worked for the Italians and the over 1,000 pairs of shoes were to be taken to Italy, as the previous batches. They also said the factory made by 3,000 pairs of shoes a month. The factory's head is liable to a fine of 20,000 to 40,000 lei or up to one year in jail. The punishment for legal entities is a fine of 70,000 to 1 million lei or up to five years' imprisonment.
