Former BCC chairman accused of appropriating radio frequency

Ex-chairman of the Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) Gheorghe Gorincioi is accused of appropriating a radio frequency. The founder of the public association “Start-Moldova” Alexandru Popovici, in a news conference at IPN, said that in 2012 Gheorghe Gorincioi favored the obtaining by “Fluctus” SRL of a license for using the frequency 104.7 FM Chisinau.

In 2012 the BCC staged a contest and “Fluctus” SRL won the right to use the given frequency for the radio station Datina FM. According to Alexandru Popovici, this firm was registered in November 2011. Its administrator was Alexandru Turcanu, the brother of Eugeniu Turcanu, who is the son-in-law of Gheorghe Gorincioi.

Alexandru Popovici said that immediately after the contest, Gheorghe Gorincioi launched an unofficial auction, where he offered the given license for €30,000. Afterward, the price fell to €10,000 as the frequency 104.7 FM hadn’t been used for a year, as the legislation provided.

The representative of the NGO also said that when it became known that he intends to make the given information public, he was threatened by the brothers Turcanu and by Gheorghe Gorincioi.

“We demand that the BCC withdraw the broadcast license for this frequency, which is held illegally by these individuals. This Gorincioi appropriates and even sells state property,” said Alexandru Popovici. He called on the Prosecutor General’s Office, the National Anticorruption Center and the Broadcasting Coordination Council to verify the information and to take the necessary measures.
