An ex-employee of the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Bucharest is investigated for abuse of office. He hid the real number of applicants for consular services and appropriated the consular fees for issuing certificates, IPN reports, quoting the National Anticorruption Center.
The counselor levied fees from citizens of the Republic of Moldova for converting Moldovan driver’s licenses into Romanian ones and didn’t indicate the money in the accounting documents of the Embassy. He personally signed and issued 8,929 certificates confirming driver’s licenses issued by the Public Services Agency of Moldova with the aim of converting them into Romanian licenses. Of all the documents, 2,566 were issued without the beneficiaries presenting the sales slip or a copy of the payment order.
The man was charged. He returned over 1 million lei of the total damage caused of 1 796 622 lei into the budget and is to pay back the rest of the sum.
