Fraudulent schemes identified at Tudora customs post
Customs officers of the border crossing point Tudora are suspected of involvement in fraudulent schemes used when taxing large-size vehicles. Officially, they caused damage of over half a million lei to the state budget, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the press service of the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime (CCCEC).
The customs officers are suspected of not levying road taxes from Ukrainian large-size trucks that are longer than allowed by law in 2009, causing thus damage to the state budget. The case is investigated the CCCEC and the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office.
If found guilty, the customs officers would serve sentences of 8 to 15 years' imprisonment and will not have the right to hold particular posts or carry our particular activities during 2 to 5 years.
Until May 2008, it was the Ministry of Construction and Road Management that put taxes on large-size vehicles. Afterward, this task was transferred to the Customs Service, which reported insignificant collections from road taxes compared with the previous periods.
