Gas leakage alarms emergency squad in Cahul

A leakage of liquefied gas (propane-butane) from the faulty pump of a tank caused yesterday a rush among employees of the Department for Emergencies and other emergency management services in Cahul. An explosion could happen at any moment. Not far from the gas station, there was an electric power transformer, the spokeswoman for the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service Dorina Cruc has told Info-Prim Neo. The emergency squad used jets of water to disperse the gas. Employees of Union Fenosa disconnected the electricity supply as any spark could trigger off an explosion. The operation has lasted for over three hours. In another development, Dorina Cruc informed that four persons, one of whom a minor, had drowned during the last few days. A 14-year-old boy drowned in an irrigation channel near Etulia village in Gagauzia on August 6. A man aged 20 died in the waters of the Nistru on August 7, while a man aged 56 drowned in a pond near Nicoreni village of Drochia district on August 9. On the same day, the body of a 42-year-old man was taken out of a well in Straseni town.
