Gender pay gap widens depending on size of salary

The Council for the Prevention and Elimination of Discrimination and Ensuring of Gender Equality reached the conclusion that the gender pay gap in Moldova is underestimated. The issue was discussed in a press club meeting where it was ascertained that the gender pay gap implies financial losses, especially for women, IPN reports.

In 2014, only 6.37% of the female salary earners worked in areas where the pay gap disfavors men. Thus, for 93.63% of the working women, the pay gap is an invisible tax that reaches an annual average value of 7,620 lei (value determined for 2014).

The analysis of pay gaps in each sector reveals that the higher is the salary in the sector, the wider are the pay gaps. In the sectors with the highest average salary, the gender pay gap rose the most.

The case study was conducted at a mobile phone carrier of Moldova.
