German jurists welcome elimination of economic and military courts in Moldova

German jurists approved of the liquidation of the economic and military courts in Moldova and the transfer of their responsibilities to the common law courts, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Ministry of Justice's press service. The given legal reform was the topic for discussion at a meeting of Minister of Justice Alexandru Tanase and experts of the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation. At the debate meeting, Alexandru Tanase presented the bill for reforming the legal system formulated by the Ministry of Justice. Expert of the Foundation Jurgen Thomas said there is no need to have military courts that would examine offenses committed by military men as such courts are not objective. He stressed that the existence of a special court shakes the principle of equality in front of the law as there is no certainty that the military courts will use the same norms when passing judgments as the common law courts. The expert also said that the preservation of economic courts for examining and solving cases involving legal entities is unnecessary and inopportune. According to him, special courts can be set up only when the law system becomes so varied that the judges and other jurists cannot appropriately familiarize themselves with all the law areas. The bill on the elimination of the economic and military courts and transfer of their responsibilities to the common law courts was approved by the Government and sent to the Parliament for examination.
