The Embassy of Germany and the Embassy of Poland in Chisinau on June 24 and 26 will stage two concerts to emphasize the successful cooperation between the two states. One of the concerts will be given on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Polish–German Treaty of Good Neighborhood and Friendly Cooperation, while the second will be held to mark the 170th anniversary of the birth of the ex-mayor of Chisinau Karl Schmidt, whose mother was of Polish origin, while whose father was of German origin, IPN reports.

The June 24 concert will take place in the square of the National Philharmonic “Sergey Lunkevich” and will include jazz music. If will feature the Jazz Orchestra of the Academy of Music, Theater and Plastic Arts, Jazz Band Univox and others. The concert will be preceded by a ceremony to render homage to Karl Schmidt, who, according to the organizers, continues to mark Chisinau by his long office as mayor, being a symbol of the European spirit of friendship and transfrontier cooperation. The traditional concert entitled “Note Diplomacy” will be given at the Summer Theater on June 26.

Germany’s Ambassador to Moldova Ulrike Knotz said the Treaty of Good Neighborhood between Germany and Poland, signed 25 years ago, is the expression of the wish of the two peoples to open a new way in their relations, at political, economic, social, cultural and other levels. “This makes us very happy. That’s why we wanted to share our joy with the citizens of the Republic of Moldova,” stated Ulrike Knotz.

Polish Ambassador in Chisinau Artur Michalski said that some can say that this treaty is a bilateral one, but it has a universal connotation and tangentially refers to the Republic of Moldova too. “This treaty served as a foundation for our integration into our home Europe,” he noted.

The Polish–German Treaty of Good Neighborhood and Friendly Cooperation was signed in Bonn on June 17, 1991.
