Gheorghe Balan to serve at Buiucani branch of Chisinau City Court

Gheorghe Balan, former acting chief of the General Police Inspectorate, will work again as a judge at the Buiucani branch of the Chisinau City Court, according to a decision made by the Superior Council of Magistracy on December 13, IPN reports.

At the end of this September, the SCM accepted Gheorghe Balan’s request to reinstate him as judge. In that meeting, acting president of the SCM Dorel Musteață specified that Gheorghe Balan was dismissed last year on the grounds of disciplinary violations. The Appeals Court accepted the lawsuit filed by Gheorghe Balan and the SCM decision to fire him was overturned as groundless.

Gheorghe Balan has distinguished himself by the harsh criticism he leveled at the judiciary system. At the Annual Assembly of Judges in March 2017, he gave a speech centering on the deviations witnessed in the system. In the parliamentary elections of February 24, 2019, he ran in single-member constituency Anenii Noi on behalf of the ACUM bloc, but didn’t win a seat.

Former Minister of the Interior Andrei Năstase named Gheorghe Balan as acting chief of the General Police Inspectorate.
