Government supports Public Monuments Bill
The Government approved on Wednesday the Public Monuments Bill. Boris Focsa, Minister of Culture, said it was one of five new documents that would cover the whole of Moldova’s cultural heritage, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“There are 4000 public monuments registered by the state, but they can’t be protected because of legislative gaps. There are a few provisions in the Law on the monuments’ protection, approved in 1993, but they are outdated. Currently, it’s impossible to have a coherent policy regarding the building of new monuments of this type”, he said.
The new bill obliges natural and juridical persons involved in the building of public monuments to coordinate their activities with specialized services of the Ministry of Culture. Any building or intervention projects must be presented to the Ministry for approval.
Public monuments are real estate objects, works of monumental art, buildings or other structures placed in public spaces in a protected area.
