The largest grapevine cuttings growing company in Moldova, which is located in Sireti, Straseni, plans to erect an apartment building for its employees. The enterprise has 115 employees, only 8 of whom are from Siret. The others come daily to work from other settlements, the company’s director Vasile Vutcarau said during a visit paid by acting Prime Minister Vlad Filat to the enterprise, IPN reports, quoting the Government’s press service.

Vasile Vutcarau said the company produces about 3 million cuttings annually. 90% of them are sold in the country, while 10% are exported to Georgia, Ukraine and other states. By the production volume, the company ranks fifth in the world. It grows sorts resistant to weather conditions typical of the southern Moldova as well as the central and northern parts of the country. The enterprise owns 160 hectares of land and rents another 450 hectares. There was an unauthorized waste dump earlier in that place. The company faces irrigation-related problems. The drought last year caused significant damage.

Vlad Filat wished Vasile Vutcarau success and assured him that the Government will continue to devote special attention to agriculture.

The acting Premier also visited the Straseni District Hospital, where he discussed with patients and employees of the medical institution. The hospital’s director Alexandru Tuchila said that repair works at a cost of over 6 million lei were carried out there last year. The money was allocated by the National Health Insurance Company. The hospital’s heating system was renovated while the doors and windows were changed. A tender contest will be held next month to buy a digital ecographer and laboratory devices. The necessary sum of US$86,000 will be provided by the Embassy of Japan as a grant.

About 1,200 surgeries are performed at the hospital yearly.
