Acting President Marian Lupu Tuesday had a closed-door meeting with guests of the international festival “Maria Biesu Invites”. He went out cheerful and said they exchanged experience and discussed future plans in the area of culture, Info-Prim Neo reports. Marian Lupu said they had a friendly discussion about the problems faced in culture and agreed that support projects are needed in this area, especially as regards classical art. He stated the guests appreciated highly the Moldovan artists. He, for his part, thanked them for accepting the invitation to take part in the contest. Ukrainian soprano Tatiana Anisimova said she feels very well in Moldova and there should be held more festivals of the kind. She stressed it was an honor for her to participate in the festival as her parents knew Maria Biesu and her mother went on tours together with her. Slovenian tenor Janez Lotric said that he was very glad when he received the invitation to Chisinau and did not hesitate to accept it. He said Slovenia is a small country, like Moldova, and thus many things are alike. As in Slovenia, the authorities in Moldova allocate not much money for culture, but there are positive trends as regards the development of culture, he stated. The festival “Maria Biesu Invites” is held between September 9 and 16. On September 13, there will be staged Giuseppe Verdi’s “Nabucco”, on September 14 – L. Minkus’s “Don Quijote”, while on September 15 - G. Puccini’s “Turandot”. The performances will take place at the National Opera House. A charity concert will be given at the Organ Hall on September 14. The proceeds will go to the Union of Musicians’ Club “Maestro” that brings together veterans of the national opera and ballet. The festival will end with a gala concert at the National Palace.
