Of the over 1,500 buildings constructed in the municipality of Chisinau this year didn’t have construction authorizations, said the head of the Architecture, Urbanism and Land Relations Division Ion Carpov, quoted by IPN.

In a meeting at the Chisinau City Hall on Monday, Ion Carpov said the problem of unauthorized constructions is accentuated by the lack of a centralized database for monitoring the legal cases started over these violations.

Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said the problem of unauthorized constructions is over 20 years old and is due to the abuse of power and traffic of influence in the land and construction sectors. The mayor said the construction sector has the highest financial value in the municipality and the situation in this sector gets out of control.

The mayor stated that 2014 will be a turning year when the problems concerning the implementation of court decisions and final acceptance of constructions must be solved.
