The head of the Bălți Psychiatric Hospital is investigated for abuse of power. According to the National Anticorruption Center, she obliged her inferiors to offer her a part of the salary each month. The money was collected from doctors and ancillary personnel as “protection fee” for not causing problems to them, IPN reports.
As employees of the hospital declared, their manager offered them monthly bonuses to the salary and then made them restore this money by promising that she will not cause trouble to them in their work. The sums collected by the hospital’s head monthly varied between 3,000 and 10,000 lei. The damage caused to the employees was estimated at over 100,000 lei.
The NAC officers instituted legal proceedings over abuse of power and carried out searches at her office. A number of persons working at the hospital were questioned and cooperate with the investigation body.
The woman is investigated outside remand and is to be suspended from post. She faces a maximum jail term of six years and ban on holding particular posts or performing particular activities for a period of two to five years.
