The motorists who will not obey the traffic rules when crossing railroads will face heavier fines and even contraventional arrest. The lawmakers adopted a bill to this respect in the final reading, IPN reports.
If the drivers violate the rules of crossing railroads, they will be fined up to 2,500 lei and will face 30 to 40 hours of community service or contraventional arrest. In all the cases, they will be banned from driving for a one-year period. The Code of Administrative Offenses now stipulates fines of up to 1,000 lei and four penalty points for similar violations.
Fines of up to 3,000 lei will be imposed if the violation of the rules of crossing railroads could have caused traffic accidents.
A series of railroad accidents happened in Moldova over the last three years. The most serious one occurred near Bulboaca village of Anenii Noi district, where a minibus transporting passengers was struck by a train. Eight persons were killed and 14 injured there.
