Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca suggested increasing the fares on the minibuses running on routes that overlap minimum 80% the trolleybus routes, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The people who have 2 lei will go by trolleybus, while those who have more money will choose the minibuses. There will be alternatives,” the mayor said in the March 4 meeting of Chisinau City Hall officials.
The proposal was made after the head of the General Public Transport and Communications Division Adrian Boldurescu said the administrator of route No. 110 and the residents of Chisinau with whom they discussed are against changing the itinerary so that it does not coincide with the trolleybus route. “The administrator said he has large debts and loans. We will have a meeting this week again and will take a final decision,” stated Adrian Boldurescu.
Dorin Chirtoaca said the route administrators were informed about the fact that the minibuses running through the city will be moved to peripheries two years ago. In this connection, the mayor asked examining the minibuses working in the suburbs. “The people complain that there are no units of transport after 8pm. Penalties should be imposed if necessary,” said the mayor.
There are seven minibus routes in Chisinau that overlap trolleybus routes in proportion of 80% and more.
