Historians Association asks Government to initiate modification of history textbooks
The Association of Historians of Moldova says that the teaching of history must be depoliticized and deideologized. “We demand that the Government initiate discussions to select specialists who will devise new history textbooks and school programs for this subject,” the Association's president Sergiu Musteata said Wednesday at a scientific-methodological conference held in Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The textbooks must present the historical truth and what connects us,” said Petru Zalincu, a teacher from Edinet.
A number of students attending the conference said they are against the Integrated History textbooks. “These textbooks hide the truth. We are confused as we do not know the real history,” said Lidia Dincu, a student of the Chisinau-based Theoretical High School “Vasile Alecsandri”. Stefan Bologan, of the same high school, said that a change is needed. “We want textbooks that will describe the true history. Knowing the past, we understand who we are and can form a view about the present situation,” he said.
According to Sergiu Musteata, a report on the Integrated History textbooks rendered by experts from the Netherlands, France and Germany in 2006 shows that they contain a lot of serious mistakes as regards certain historical events. “We obtained access to this report through court. The Communists hid it, but today, we open the doors,” the Association's president said.
Pavel Cerbusca, a member of the Association of Historians, said that they will insist that the school program be modified so that it enables the children to put what they learn at classes into practice.
The scientific-methodological conference themed “Historical Education in Moldova's Education System” was organized at the suggestion of the Association of Historians.
