For the first time on the occasion of the Hungarian Culture Days in Moldova, students of the Free International University of Moldova staged a scientific conference centering on the history of the Moldovan-Hungarian relations. Consul general of Hungary in Moldova Gyula Levente Sass has told IPN that this is an important even in the cooperation between the Hungarian Embassy and the Moldovan universities.
The Moldovan-Hungarian relations were established 23 years ago. Hungary was among the first countries that recognized Moldova’s independence. “We already signed 50 treaties and cooperation agreements between our states. At the foreign policy level, Hungary makes a contribution within the European institutions, supporting Moldova’s integration into the European community. We hope that the visa requirements in the EU for Moldovans will be soon abolished,” said the consul general.
The Hungarian diplomat stressed that Hungary supports Moldova’s efforts to integrate into the European organizations, the development of market economy and of the institutions and the ensuring of the implementation of democratic norms.
Gyula Levente Sass said that talks are carried out to sign agreements on the cultural relations. “On April 6, Hungary will hold parliamentary elections. We hope that after them, we will be able to sign these agreements that provide, among others, for the organization of the Moldovan Culture Days in Budapest, for the first time,” he added.
The Hungarian Culture Days in Moldova continue until January 24. A handicrafts exhibition titled “Matyoart” will be opened at the Embassy of Hungary on Friday. The exhibits will include people’s art items, traditional Hungarian clothes and objects made in the Hungarian region Matyo. Access is free of charge.
