Irina Cozonac makes debut at Winter Youth Olympics

Biathlete Irina Cozonac had a modest start at the first Winter Youth Olympic Games held in Innsbruck, Austria. On January 15, the Moldovan athlete ranked 46th of 48 participants in the 6 km sprint, Info-Prim Neo reports. On the shooting range, Irina Cozonac missed three targets. The winner Franziska Preuss from Germany finished almost eight minutes ahead of her. On January 16, Moldova’s only representative at the competition will compete in the 7.5 km pursuit race. Irina Cozonac, 17, is a student of the Chisinau-based High School “Spiru Haret”. She is trained by Nadejda Bria. The 2012 Winter Youth Olympics brought together over 1 000 athletes from 68 countries. The competition includes 15 sporting events.
