John Allelo sworn in as USAID Mission Director for Moldova

John Allelo is the new Director of the USAID Mission in the Republic of Moldova. He was officially appointed during a virtual ceremony on January 14. During the event, John Allelo was sworn in front of USAID Administrator Samantha Power, IPN reports.

In her speech, Samantha Power highlighted the importance of USAID's mission in supporting democratic reforms in Moldova. "Moldova is going through a moment of extraordinary opportunity, assuming absolutely essential democratic reforms, such as the fight against corruption, simplifying bureaucratic processes and guaranteeing free and fair elections. With John at the helm, we will continue to support Moldova's extraordinary efforts for transparency, accountability and energy independence," said the USAID Administrator.

John Allelo comes to Moldova with extensive international experience, gained within USAID missions in Armenia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Colombia, Kosovo, South Sudan, and Bulgaria. Throughout his career, he coordinated programs aimed at economic development, strengthening democratic institutions and increasing resilience in various regions of the world.

In his new position, for the next three years, Allelo will guide USAID Moldova's efforts to promote economic growth, strengthen democratic governance and support the country's European path.

John Allelo holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Louisiana State University, a Law Degree from Tulane University, and a Master’s degree in Strategic Studies from the Air War College.
