Judge from Chisinau to be criminally investigated for not properly declaring wealth

A judge from the Court of Chisinau City will be criminally investigated for false statements. The Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) accepted Prosecutor General Ion Munteanu’s request to give the go-ahead to start a criminal investigation against the judge, IPN reports.

The Prosecutor General’s request was examined by the SCM behind closed doors on Monday. Following deliberations, with the votes of seven members, the request was accepted. Two members voted against.

The criminal investigation is to be initiated for the intentional inclusion of incomplete or false data, intentional non-inclusion of data in the property and personal interest declaration.

Under the Criminal Code, this offense carries a penalty in the form of a fine of 25,000 to 30,000 lei or imprisonment of up to 1 year, in both cases with ban on holding particular positions or performing a particular activity for a period of 2 to 5 years.
