The justice sector reform in Moldova is implemented at an accelerated pace even if the people are skeptical in this respect. Related statements were made by Minister of Justice Oleg Efrim and Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

According to the minister, an improvement in the legal system is already noticed. After the whole package of anticorruption laws is implemented, the results will be evident. For the first time in Moldova, five judges and four prosecutors are investigated for committing different acts of corruption and pronouncing illegal decisions. Since 1995 until present, no judge or prosecutor was brought to justice. Almost 100 judges left the legal system over the last four years.

According to Oleg Efrim, the inefficient professional training is an acute problem in the legal system. This problem is to be solved with the help of the judge assessment commission. A judge from Chisinau was dismissed after he wasn’t certified by the assessment commission.

Both the minister of justice and the prosecutor general said the reformation of the prosecution service is the main task for this year. Corneliu Gurin said that emphasis in this process is put on the decentralization of the prosecution service. “There will be fewer chiefs and fewer senior prosecutors. The prosecutors dealing directly with the investigation of crimes will enjoy more freedom,” he stated.

Speaking about the committee working on the reformation of the prosecution service, Oleg Efrim said it does nothing but find solutions flowing recommendations made by foreign experts. He added that the rise in the salaries of judges will be followed by an increase in the pays of prosecutors.

The justice sector reform in Moldova is to be completed in 2016.
