The KFOR-21 contingent of the National Army peacekeepers has returned home from its peacekeeping mission in Kosovo. Since July 2024, the 41 soldiers have carried out security and guard duties, patrols, and engineering tasks within their area of responsibility. During a welcome ceremony at the Ministry of Defense, the peacekeepers were awarded decorations and diplomas, IPN reports.
Present at the event, Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatii congratulated the 41 soldiers for their contribution to international peace and stability, highlighting the high professionalism of the Moldovan contingent within the Regional Command West.
"I am firmly convinced that the skills you acquired before the mission and applied in the operational theater will continue to contribute to the successful fulfillment of your duties within military units," stated the minister.
On January 28, at the Camp Villaggio Italia military base in Pech, a transfer of authority ceremony took place between Moldovan peacekeeping contingents, attended by the leadership of the Regional Command West.
The Kosovo peacekeeping operation follows the NATO peacekeeping mission launched in 1999. The Republic of Moldova deployed its first National Army peacekeeping contingent to Kosovo on March 8, 2014. Each contingent serves a six-month mission.
