The thesis that the large number of police officers at public events provokes the protesters is not true. On the contrary, this ensures the peaceful conduct of protests, the member of the presidium of the Associations of Veterans and Pensioners of the Ministry of the Interior Mihai Cebotari stated in the talk show “Issue of the Day” on Canal2 TV channel, IPN reports.
Mihai Cebotari said it happens that the police officers are abused. “No one is against the people stating their opinions and defending their rights, but everything should be done in accordance with the law and peacefully. It is very painful when those who maintain public order and ensure the protesters’ security are insulted and hit,” he stated, adding such situations happen because the people do not have civic education and protesting culture.
Head of the trade union “Demnitate” Mihail Lascu said the police officers at such events fulfil their duties that include the maintaining of public order and use of force for ending misconducts in protests. ”We called on the competent bodies to examine the cases and hold accountable the persons who allowed using violence against police employees,” he noted.
In a news conference on June 27, veterans of the Ministry of the Interior and of the Nistru war of 1992 called on the people who take part in protests to have an appropriate conduct and show respect for the police officers who maintain public order and security during the street demonstrations.
