The municipal councilors of the Liberal and Communist factions voted together most of the items included in the agenda of the September 5 meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC). Other issues were sent back for reexamination. The Liberal-Democratic councilors didn’t attend the meeting, IPN reports.

The councilors adopted a number of decisions without debating them, including decisions on the leasing out of municipal plots and areas to private individuals and companies operating in Chisinau.

Unaffiliated councilor Teo Carnat said a part of the adopted decisions are at the limit of legality. Such a decision is the one regarding the leasing out of the building located at 42 Mateevici St, which until recently housed the municipal newspaper “Capitala” that stopped work on August 1. A part of the building - 300 square meters - was given to lawyer Ion Casian for 5,000 lei a month. Another part of the building will be used by filmmakers Alina Ciutac and Ion Chistruga for 10,000 lei a month.

In the morning of September 5, the members of the Liberal-Democratic faction said the Liberal and Communist councilors formed a concrete alliance in the CMC. They warned they will move to the opposition if the mayor general of Chisinau supports this alliance.

For his part, Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca, who is the deputy chairman of the Liberal Party, said there is no such alliance in the CMC. According to him, by making such statements, the Lib-Dems want to distract attention from the thefts committed at the Chisinau International Airport and at Banca de Economii. “No majority has existed in the Council since 2011. The Liberal-Democratic councilors should attend the meetings as the vacation is over. The items were included in the agenda by the municipal councilors, including the Lib-Dems,” he stated.

The next meeting of the CMC will take place on September 26.
