Long lines after books at half price

Hundreds of people on December 4 formed lines to purchase books issued at the Cartier publishing house at half price. But this didn’t make the readers give up acquiring the wanted books. The event was held before the Feast of Saint Nicholas at two bookshops in Chisinau, IPN reports.

According to the director of the Cartier publishing house Gheorghe Erizanu, among the most popular books were “Our unknown Chisinau” by Iurie Colesnic, “Era of Extremes” by Eric Hobsbawm, Grigore Vieru’s poems and “Atlas’s Revolt” by Ayn Rand.

Aureliu Busuioc’s novel “Alone before love”, “1979” by Christian Kracht and “New Machiavelli” by Jonathan Powell were also popular with the buyers.

The about 1,200 readers who came after their preferred books bought also children’s book. “Albinuta” remains one of the most favorite books in this category, followed by “Alphabet with tales” by Lica Sainciuc, “Ballad of the five kittens” and “The Story of an Ant” by Ion Druta.

Gheorghe Erizanu said the event exceeded organizers’ expectations. “A lot of young people came. This is very good. The readers of the books of Cartier are young and we know it, but I’m glad every time I see young people in the bookshops. There were long queues. The people have to wait for about 40 minutes to get to the cash desk,” he stated.

The publishing house Cartier has staged such an event for the fourth consecutive year.
