Manipulation through the media continues as in the 1990s, lawyer

The manipulation of the population by the mass media continues in the same style as in the 1990s. The news about the criminal activities of the police, prosecutors and judges is almost absent from the bulletins of some of the TV channels, while the activities of particular politicians are broadly covered, considers lawyer Vitalie Taulean. In a news conference at IPN, this said that some of the Moldovan journalists are fearful and ignore the public events where they are criticized for not ensuring impartiality.

Vitalie Taulean noted that there are TV channels that pose as ‘advocates’ for dignity and truth, but actually struggle to promote their own obscure and evil interests. “The fact that the news about the offenses committed by representatives of the the police, prosecution service and the judiciary is ignored by TV channels that claim to struggle for dignity and truth is worrisome,” he stated.

The lawyer expressed his indignation at the fact that the information he presented in news conferences about the illegalities committed by the police is not disseminated by most of the media outlets. He said he was included in the blacklist by about ten TV channels of Moldova so that his activities as a lawyer are not covered.

According to Vitalie Taulean, prosecutors fabricated three criminal cases against him. One of them was started over an alleged act of hooliganism inside the Prosecutor General’s Office, the second over the falsification of the own license of lawyer, while the third in connection with the case of a judge of the Military Court of Law. “You can see in what conditions a lawyer who makes effort to clarify the illegalities and abuses in justice has to work,” he stated.

The lawyer recommended the media outlets not to lie to the people and to attend the news conferences, no matter who organizes these. “The journalists should try and inform the general public about the things promoted by some persons. I consider these things are absolutely necessary in a democratic state where the principle of equality of rights is respected,” said Vitalie Taulean.

He also expressed his disappointment at the fact that the representatives of the media who attended the last news conferences he gave didn’t present the position of those about whom he spoke in these. He underlined that the journalists should have contacted them to ask for their opinions.
