Minimum ICT standards for schools

Each school and lyceum of the country should have by at least 25 computers, while the primary schools – by at least ten computers. Such a provision is contained in a document concerning minimum ICT standards for education institutions that was recently approved by the Board of the Ministry of Education, IPN reports.

At least one of the two computers must be younger than five years, while the institutions should ensure a ratio of students to computers of at least 1:20.

As a result of an analysis of the situation, it was established that to meet the proposed minimum standards, there must be bought 11,250 computers. The institutions must allocate 0.3% to 2% of their annual budget (depending on the number of students) for purchasing computers.

Dan Perciun, head of the Ministry of Education’s e-Transformation and Informatization Division, said the outfitting of the education institutions with modern computers meeting the curriculum requirements is necessary for developing the computer literacy of students and teachers.

The minimum ICT standards for education institutions were proposed as a recommendation.
