Ministry of Justice donates one daily salary for penitentiary construction
The Ministry of Justice’s employees will donate several hundred thousand lei from their salary for one day in order to complete the project for a model penitentiary for minors in Goian. The Collaborators of the Penitentiary Institutions’ Department have already gathered over 300 thousand lei, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Justice, the initiative was supported by the employees of the Court Administration Department, the Legislation Harmonization Center and those of the UTA Gagauz-Yeri Justice Division.
The project is made by the ministry with the support of local and foreign partners, amongst which are the Norvegian Mission for Promoting Law Supremacy in Moldova and UNICEF Moldova, which have the goal of contributing to reform the penitentiary system through an institution for minors, that takes into account the European practices and respecting human rights.
The model is the penitentiary in Oslo, Norway, whose practices are to be adapted to the new institution for delinquent minors in Goian. At the same time, the project expects the modification of the entire system of facilities for juvenile correction, so that detention is replaced by an environment with dynamic security, focused on the child, which includes educational, therapeutic and professional orientation activities.
The penitentiary reconstruction project from Goian will be implemented by December 2013, and its budget is approximately 2 million euros. Taking this in mind, the Ministry of Justice announces availability for donations that will contribute to bettering the children’s condition and equipping the institution’s library, computer room, gymnasium and cafeteria.
