Mobile application offers career guidance to young people

A mobile application designed to help the young people identify the suitable profession was launched in Chisinau by the International Labor Organization and the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection. The application contains information that will help the young people to take a decision as to their studies, to learn and use techniques for looking for and getting a job according to the personal interests and aspirations, IPN reports.

Secretary of state Anastasia Ocheretnyiu told a news conference that the young people most of the times choose a profession at the suggestion of the family or friends. As they not always have access to specialized information, they risk facing difficulties later, when they determine that the profession they chose does not coincide with their aspirations and skills.

ILO programs coordinator Violeta Vrabie said the application was developed because it was ascertained that the young people lack information when they need to choose the appropriate studies. They do not have sufficient information also when they look for a job. This application is an accessible and handy source of information about education and the labor market. It is intended for Android devices and can be downloaded from Google Play, where it can be found under the name “Surfing the labor market”. It could also be downloaded from the website of the National Employment Agency.

National Employment Agency director Raisa Dogaru said the first section of the application contains a series of questionnaires that the young people will complete and will thus understand what job is more suitable for them. Another section helps them identify the occupations according to preferences, aspirations and aptitudes. The young people could also access information about how to correctly write a Curriculum Vite and model CVs that could be downloaded and filled out. The application also contains information about methods of looking for a job.

Igor Ciurea, secretary general of the National Youth Council of Moldova, said that today, owing to the Internet, the young people have access to a huge volume of information that confuses them further instead of helping them. The application is designed to offer high-quality information to the young people. “The young people are often victims of circumstances and they choose a faculty on the advice of a friend or accept a job because someone told them this is vacant. But such solutions are not efficient as the young people are often dissatisfied with the job and are thus unproductive. Therefore, career guidance is an essential element and this possibility should exist at any stage,” he stated.

In Moldova, four in ten people out of work registered with the National Employment Agency are aged between 15 and 29. Over 40% of the young people do not accept the offers available on the labor market also because their qualifications are inappropriate. Over 4,000 young people are now registered as unemployed at the Agency.
