Moldova suffer defeat in Cyprus
The national Moldovan football team lost a friendly match against Cyprus 3-2. The game was played on August 10, in Cyprus, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The hosts opened the score thanks to Andreas Avraam, but the Tricolors found the equalizer just 10 minutes later through defender Igor Armas. Seconds before the break, Gabi Balint’s side took the lead as Gheorghe Ovseanicov scored. Despite the Moldovans looking dangerous in the last third of the pitch, it’s the Cypriots who scored. First Avraam completed his brace, then Sinisa Dobrasinovic netted the winner on 89 minutes.
Gabi Balint tested several youth players who could join the senior side in future. Valeriu Ciuperca, Iulian Erhan and Maxim Potarniche earned their first caps.
This was Moldova’s last preparation match before the fixture with Finland on September 2, in the qualifying groups of the 2012 European Championship.
Moldova’s group rivals played on Wednesday as well. Sweden bested Ukraine 1-0, Finland defeated Latvia 2-0 and Hungary beat Iceland 4-0. Only San Marino lost to Romania 0-1. Netherlands’ friendly with England on Wembley was canceled due to riots in London.
