Moldovan and Romanian specialists consider creating crossborder park
Specialists from Moldova and Romania are exploring the possibility of setting up a crossborder park as part of the project “Descriptio Moldaviae – Moldova Regional Center for Tourism” that is implemented by the EU’s crossborder projects union between the Iasi City Hall and the Ecological Movement of Moldova.
The park will cover northwestern Moldova, the head of the Ecological Movement Alecu Renita said at a news conference, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. According to Renita, about 40% of Moldova’s natural monuments are situated in this zone. On the other side, in Romania, there are protected areas. They could be joined to form the national crossborder park The Middle Prut.
Project manager Anca Zota, of the Iasi Tourist Information Center, said the project’s budget is 442,000 euros. There will be created a database and a website providing information about the tourist facilities in Botosani, Vaslui, Iasi, Galati and in Moldova. About 20 persons from these regions will be trained as tourism managers with accredited diplomas. There will be made fact-finding visits and several tens of thousands of promotion materials.
“We intend to promote the natural and cultural heritage of Moldova over the Prut and to provide detailed information about this patrimony. Moldova is known only for its cellars in Milestii Mici and Cricova. We want that the people also know the picturesque places, starting with Naslavcea and ending with Giurgiulesti and from the East to the West,” Alecu Renita said.
The project aims to develop tourism in the border zones of Romania and Moldova through crossborder cooperation. It will be completed in November this year.
