Moldovan sportspeople return from Beijing

The Moldovan team returned from the Beijing Olympic Games on August 26. A concourse of people were waiting in the Chisinau airport to greet the sportspeople who participated in the 5th contest of this rank in Moldova's history. The hero of this Olympic edition is the boxer Veceaslav Gojan, who managed to win Moldova's only medal in 8 years. The bronze of the pugilist from the Grimancauti school propelled Moldova to the 76th place in the general classification of nations. Gojan has said the Olympics were an extraordinary event and he regrets he failed to gain a better score. “I thank you for your support and congratulations. It was very difficult in the first match, I was so nervous but I managed to past the Australian. In the semifinals, I have to admit the Mongol Enhbat Badyr-Uganu was stronger, but I'm grad I could follow Vitalie Grusac who got a similar result in Sydney in 2000.” The boxer's coach, Petru Caduc, says Gojan's medal is a confirmation for the a professionalism of the Moldovan boxing school and this event is the strongest in the country at the moment. The chairman of the National Olympic Committee, Nicolae Juravschi, says the performance of the Moldovan sportspeople continued the rich tradition at the former Olympiads, proving special moral and technical qualities. “In the future, I consider we should bank on sport events in which have more chances, because now we cannot develop in all the existing events.” Juravschi has launched optimistic forecasts as to the Moldovans' participating in the next Olympics in London.
