Moldovan trafficked to Georgia and forced to work

A man from Chisinau was trafficked to Georgia, where he had been forced to work for two months. The 44-year-old Moldovan accused of trafficking the man faces up to 15 years in jail, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, last March the victim was recruited by another man who promised him a well-paid job in Georgia. The culprit covered the travel expenses. When the victim got to the Georgian town Gagra, he was forced to work in the construction sector. To prevent him from running away, the man was hit with an iron bar over the leg.

When he managed to return to Moldova, the man informed the law enforcement bodies about what happened. The culprit was recently arrested and charged. It was established that the offender recruited also other persons to work in similar conditions aboard. Several victims filed complaints against him. The case is to be remitted to court.
