Moldovan wrestlers rank fifth at World Champs

Moldovan athletes Alexandru Burca and Natalia Budu were close to winning bronze medals at the World Wrestling Championship taking place in the Danish town of Herning, Info-Prim Neo reports. In the freestyle wrestling event, the 74 kg class, Alexandru Burca won against Ricardo Robertis from Venezuela and Dorjvaanchig Gombodorj from Mongolia. In quarterfinals, he lost to Azerbaijan's Chamsul Varayev. Even if he suffered a defeat, he continued fighting in requalifiers. He beat Greece's Apostolos Taskoudis, but lost the bronze medal to Ramesh Kumar from India. Consequently, the 26-year-old athlete ranked fifth. In women's 51 kg class, Natalia Budu scored three consecutive victories, defeating Romania's Cristina Raluca Croitoru, Mongolia's Davaasukh Otgontsetseg and India's Babita Kumari. In semifinals, Natalia was beaten by Han Kum Ok from North Korea. In the battle for the bronze medal, the 24-year-old athlete was defeated by Ukraine's Oleksandra Kohut and she finished fifth. Freestyle wrestler Ludmila Cristea (59 kg) enters the competition on September 24, Info-Prim Neo reports. In the Greco-Roman wrestling event, Moldova will be represented by Vladimir Zaporojan (66 kg), Andrian Mocanu (84 kg) and Anatolie Moldovan (96 kg). More than 500 athletes from over 50 countries are participating in the World Wrestling Championship in Herning.
