The monument to victims of Stalinist repression that will be put up in the square of the Railway Terminal in Chisinau will be lit. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca Monday asked that the area near the monument, along Decebal Blvd. and Muncesti St, be also lit, IPN reports.

Deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu said the works on the monument go according to plan. “The pavement near the monument will be from Cosauti stones, as around the monument to ruler Stephan the Great. The fence will be from reinforced steel, while the underground passage will be paved with natural stones. The fountain and all the decorative elements will be restored,” he stated.

The monument will be unveiled on July 6, when the victims of the second wave of deportations are commemorated. 

Dorin Chirtoaca asked preventing the street vendors from selling in the area, relocating the kiosks, and demolishing the unauthorized constructions. As regards the market of second-hand goods, the mayor said its place should be changed.
