More couples seek divorce from church

More and more couples in Moldova are asking the church authorities to break their wedlock. Some 20 persons daily ask the Metropolitan Bishop to dissolve their marriage, including for the purpose of remarriage, Fr. Octavian Mosin, spokesperson for the Moldovan Metropolitan Church, has told Info-Prim Neo. “We are doing everything to prevent this practice. But not in all cases the request for the dissolution of marriage bonds comes with a formal divorce. Seeking a divorce from the church can also occur when one of the spouses dies, disappears, or for any other unfortunate reason”, Fr. Mosin explained. “It is good though that people are asking the Metropolitan Church for help. We realize that most of those who remain alone regret their solitude, are unhappy and therefore come to the church for a divorce in order to be able to remarry. I think this is mature, it demonstrates that those people want to be together and keep their family even if something went wrong with their first marriage”, says Octavian Mosin. In 2008, over 26,000 Moldovan couples entered into civil marriage. The number of divorces exceeded 24,000.
