More powers for investigation officers of police stations

Investigation officers of police stations will have the power not only to state contraventions, but to also examine them, IPN reports, quoting a bill to amend the Contravention Code drafted by the Ministry of the Interior.

Currently, the contraventions stated by investigation officers are transmitted to police station chiefs for examination. Owing to the heavy workloads of police station chiefs, many cases are investigated in a hurry and thus inappropriately. Therefore, the compiled reports on contraventions can be annulled by courts of law.

The reduction in the number of contraventions examined by police station chiefs will contribute to improving the activity of the law by ensuring access to all the necessary means within contravention proceedings, in accordance with the Contravention Code, says the informative note to the bill.
