More subject choice. A new school curriculum development concept

Multimedia textbooks, innovative digital platforms, new labs and creative workshops - these are just some of the features of the school curriculum development concept approved by the Ministry of Education and Research. The document emphasizes the development of the system of competences that students need to develop their potential, learn throughout their lives, ensure their well-being, shape their future and transform society, IPN reports.

The standard curriculum models will be retained. In the meantime, more elective subjects will be included for schools implementing an innovative framework plan for secondary education. There will be more hours for the new subject "Me and Society" in all cycles: primary, secondary and high school.

Another novelty is the update of the graduate training profile and the competency system of the disciplinary curriculum. "The approved document includes a new graduate training profile, which will empower students in the formation of key competences and contribute to the improvement of learning outcomes. The new competences required by the challenges of today's world, which the students will train and develop, will contribute to their competitiveness and academic performance", says Valentina Olaru, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research.

According to the official, the new innovative framework plans, new school subjects and transdisciplinary themes will help transform schools into an open space for innovation and the classroom into a creative space. "Through the transdisciplinary themes that students will choose according to their own needs and interests, they will learn to work in a team, to be collaborative, proactive, creative," Valentina Olaru said.

The entire curriculum development will last until 2027.
