The Community of Ukrainian Women of Moldova, in partnership with the Interethnic Relations Bureau of Moldova, honored all the mothers from Ukraine and Moldova within the Mother’s Day held to mark the 20th anniversary of the foundation of the community. An exhibition of photographs entitled “Mother – the beginning of all the beginnings” was opened within the event, IPN reports.
Attending the event, Ukrainian Ambassador in Chisinau Serghii Pyrozhkov congratulated the Community of Ukrainian Women on the anniversary and thanked it for promoting the Ukrainian traditions in Moldova. He also thanked the Moldovan administration for the attention devoted to the Ukrainian minority and for being near Ukraine now that the country experiences a political crisis.
Swedish Ambassador to Moldova Ingrid Tersman said the Mother’s Day is important for everyone because it is an additional occasion for appreciating the important role played by mothers in our lives. “This day makes us think about our own mothers and this was probably the intention of those who organized this event. I’m impressed by the way the community of Ukrainians in Moldova celebrates this day and by the possibilities you enjoy to promote nice traditions,” she stated.
In the same connection, the official underlined that a country that respects the national minorities is powerful not only inside, but also outside. Ingrid Tersman expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian authorities, saying it is the right of every state to choose its future and Sweden will support Ukraine.
For her part, President of the International Women’s Club in Moldova Marie Moser said the U.S. represents a multiethnic society and therefore it is powerful. “Moldova is similar to the United States in this sense, through the respect for the ethnic groups from here. This makes it rich culturally and diverse,” she stated.
Marie Moser added that the democratic society allows expressing one’s wish by freedom of choice, stressing that the international community will assist Ukraine to hold the May 25 presidential elections.
