The Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) took cognizance of the resignation handed in by acting mayor general of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, IPN reports.

The mayor registered the application with the City Hall’s secretariat on February 16. On February 19 the application was transmitted to the Central Election Commission, stated Adrian Talmaci, acting secretary of the CMC.

The Central Election Commission within 30 days is to announce new elections. This should be done at least 60 days before the election day.

New elections are held at most two times a year, in spring and in autumn, simultaneously in all the communities where elections were announced. The new elections this spring were set for May 20.
