An officer of the National Anticorruption Center was arrested on suspicion that he asked for €100,000 from a person for influencing a decision, IPN reports.
Press officer of the Prosecutor General’s Office Maria Vieru has told IPN that the officer was arrested within a criminal case started over influence peddling. This would have asked the money for influencing colleagues to take a favorable decision in favor of an arrested person.
In a press release, the National Anticorruption Center says it regrets the presumed involvement of its employee in acts of corruption. The Center’s Internal Security Division offers all the necessary assistance to prosecutors in swiftly and professionally investigating this case.
The suspect was arrested for 72 hours following a joint operation carried out by the Center and the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office.
