From January 1, the duties to set and pay pensions to police employees will be taken over by the National House of Social Insurance, IPN reports, quoting amendments and supplements approved by the Government to the Law on the provision of pensions to service members and members of the command corps and troops of the internal affairs bodies.
Thus, one institution will be responsible for determining and paying pensions to all the categories of beneficiaries, including police employees. Better conditions are created for ensuring a transparent and efficient system of using public funds.
Currently, six different authorities deal with the provision of pensions to service members, including those who work on a contract basis, persons from the command corps and troops of the internal affairs bodies and to their families.
A pension system performance audit carried out by the Audit Office in 2015 showed that the information system for setting pensions for the police is outdated and does not ensure the efficient processing of data. At the same time, the current situation is determined by the lack of systematized information about the real costs associated with all the categories of pensions, the real number of pensioners in Moldova and other relevant indicators.
Prime Minister Pavel Filip said this bill forms part of a broader strategy for reforming the pension system. Following this reform, the pensions of those who retired starting with 2017 and of those who retired after 1999 and were disfavored when their pension was calculated will be raised. The reform will help ensure a sustainable and equitable pension system.
The bill with amendments and supplements will be submitted to Parliament for examination and adoption.
