National Museum of Arts invites to International Museum Day and Night of Museums
The National Museum of Arts of Moldova will organize a wide range of cultural activities dedicated to the International Museum Day and the Night of the Museums between May 15 and 18, 2009, Info-Prim Neo reports.
An exhibition of drawings by children will be opened on May 15 at 12.00. The contest-game for children “Museum - Temple of Muses” will be held afterward. There will be also set up an exhibition titled “Mysteries of the Orient”. A cultural program will be carried out in cooperation with the Center of Japanese Culture “Ikenobo”, were there will be presented ikebana and origami items.
On May 16, the Museum will celebrate the fourth Night of the Museums in Moldova, which will include different cultural activities. This year’s theme is “Night Can Also Be Day”. A performance by the National Puppet Theater “Licurici” will start at 10.00, followed by the drawing contest “Traveling Around the World” that will last until the evening. It will be held as part of the mentioned exhibitions and in the square “Octavian Ghibu”.
Videos made by the Association of Young Plastic Artists “Oberlicht” will be shown starting at 21.00.
Established by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in 1977, the International Museum Day is a yearly cultural event designed to form and strengthen cooperation relations between museums and museographers.
The ICOM now has more than 20,000 members from 115 countries and represents a perfect image of a multicultural and interdisciplinary community. Moldova became a member of the ICOM in 2005.
The Night of the Museums is an initiative of the Council of Europe supported by the ICOM. It was first celebrated on May 14, 2005.
