Nearly each third Moldovan suffers from chronic disease

Practically each third person in Moldova suffers from at least one chronic disease, shows a study conducted by the National Bureau of Statistics at the request of the Ministry of Health. The main causes for morbidity are the diseases of the circulatory, respiratory and digestive systems, IPN reports.

Some 36% of the population in urban areas suffer from at least one chronic disease, as opposed to 35.2% in rural areas. This situation is different from that of 2012, when the chronic disease prevalence rate was higher in villages than in cities and towns, being 32.4% and 33.7% respectively.

The people in urban areas more often suffer from diseases of the digestive system, while those in rural areas from diseases of the circulatory system.

The number of persons older than 55 who suffer from chronic diseases exceeds the share of those who reported no chronic disease almost two times.
