About 700 graduates of the State University of Medicine and Pharmacology “Nicolae Testemitanu” on July 17 took the Hippocratic oath after completing the six-year studies. Over 40 of these are foreigners who studied in Romanian, IPN reports.
The University’s rector Ion Ababii congratulated the graduates, saying the years of study were the first stage on their way to becoming doctors and this profession requires a lot of devotion. “I hope the 2016 class of doctors and druggists will continue the traditions established by our institution. About 70% of the graduates from Moldova are expected to go to work in districts and villages,” he stated.
“There is no finish in medicine. The profession of doctor requires permanent improvement of abilities and enrichment of knowledge. I will be near the young doctors so as to support the interesting ideas that they will put forward and to help them when they will need assistance. You have an ally in my person, dear graduates,” said Minister of Health Ruxanda Glavan.
Deputy Minister of Education Vasile Marina wished the graduates perseverance and receptivity to the needs of the people. There is a truth checked in time – by work the humans got tired less than by prolonged rest – while the profession of doctors necessitates a lot of work, dedication and courage.
“It’s hard for me to believe that I will soon separate from my colleagues. Next Tuesday we will yet meet at the graduation ball. We learned a lot, but there is yet a lot to be learned,” said graduate Victor Parvu.
Many of the graduates were accompanied by parents. Inna Matasar, the mother of a young woman, came to share the emotions of this event together with the nine-month-old boy of her daughter. “I hope that David, when he grows up, will find out that he attended the event where his mother took the Hippocratic oath. Maybe this will influence him to choose the future profession. Doctors are needed everywhere, especially in rural areas, from where we came all,” she stated.
Two days ago, in a ceremony at the National Opera House “Maria Biesu”, the Hippocratic oath was taken by the 224 international graduates show studied medicine at “Nicolae Testemitanu” in English. The 2016 class includes 912 doctors and pharmacists.
